The blue-eyed brunet shared some of her style tips with THR.

New ‘New Girl’ Videos: Starting Over, the Zooey Deschanel Way
Written by admin on August 23, 2011 • Leave a message? / No Comments

FOX’s upcoming comedy New Girl has received a lot of attention thanks to its leading lady, and from the videos below, you can see why. Zooey Deschanel plays the quirky Jessica Day, who as you may know by now, moves in with three guys after she breaks up with her boyfriend.

It’s all new for her, as they teach her a few things about how to handle the dating game.
But she soon realizes that living with them has its perks and problems. Sure, she’s learning a lot about men and relating to them. Too bad she’s also a witness to a messy room, the scarcity of food, and strangers sleeping soundly on the couch.

We have three clips from New Girl below, from Jess’ getting to know her new roommates to seeing them help her get a man on her own. Tip: it’s not really cool to refer to every guy as “sailor”.

On this first video, we see how Jess’ finds her way to the apartment of Schmidt (Max Greenfield), Coach (Damon Wayans, Jr.) and Nick (Jake M. Johnson).
This next clip is pretty much the same, but here we meet Jess’ model friend Cece and get to see Jess’ badger face. Plus, she doesn’t just break into song. She’s a musical number all by herself.
This last video shows Jess running into a lot of surprises that the guys have left behind in the apartment. There’s always something new, right? Like empty cereal boxes or maybe even a random woman?

New Girl is one of the most anticipated fall shows this year, and we get it. There’s a lot more to learn about the quirky Jess Day, and we’ll find out if she’ll manage the ups and downs of relationships as the series goes along. Don’t miss the premiere on September 20 at 9pm on FOX.

Go behind the scenes of Zooey Deschanel’s latest Rimmell London ad
Written by admin on August 22, 2011 • Leave a message? / No Comments

zooey dechanel - rimmel Zooey Deschanel is one of those celebrities that you just can’t help but love! She often plays very lovable characters like the musical Jovie in the 2003 comedy Elf and the fun-loving Allison in the Jim Carrey dramedy, Yes Man.

So it’s been fantastic to see her spread her wings in the musical arena (Zooey is in a band with M. Ward called She & Him), personally (she married Death Cab for Cutie erm cutie Ben Gifford in 2009), and even in advertising, as brand ambassador for beauty brand Rimmell London.

Earlier this month Rimmell London released a fun new advertisement featuring Zooey and their Volume Accelerator Mascara, which I have included below in case you missed it. The brand just released some new images giving fans a behind-the-scenes look of the shoot which I’m delighted to share with you all.

Zooey Deschanel to Write More Music
Written by admin on August 18, 2011 • Leave a message? / No Comments

Zooey Deschanel is planning to revive her music career now she’s tied down with a TV role.

The 500 Days of Summer star admits her time is almost entirely going to be taken up by her role in new show New Girl but that may actually be good news for her music career.

“I tend to be the type of person who thrives on having a schedule,” says Zooey, 31.

“I’m actually really excited because I think I’ll write more music even though I have less time. My whole first record, I wrote in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep and I was doing movies. So I feel like it’ll be good for me.”

Zooey has previously admitted she tells fibs during interviews!

“If someone has an idea how I am going to answer something and already has an angle on what they are going to write about I know it right away and that makes me feel so uncomfortable and just makes me want to rebel,” she said.

“I don’t like leading questions that are telling me how I feel. I don’t like that and I also don’t like it when people make statements disguised as questions which are also leading me.”

Zooey Deschanel Wants You to Know Her New Girl Character Is Not Douche-y
Written by admin on August 11, 2011 • Leave a message? / No Comments

TV is full of douche bags. (We’re looking at you, Andy Bernard!) But Zooey Deschanel is taking a stand right here and now in an effort to get the message out that her character on Fox’s The New Girl is anything but a douche.

The question came up when we chatted with her on the Fox TCA Winner’s Walk carpet, and we only asked because in the episode, her male roommates have a “douche bag” jar. Did you say or do something douche-like? Put a dollar in the jar. We asked if Zooey’s character, Jess, would ever have to use said jar, and her answer was…

A resounding hell no! “One thing Jess is not is douche bag-y,” she laughs.

Man, we’re using the word douche a lot in this article.

Anyway, Zooey also talked about one of the funniest/saddest scenes in the pilot, where she is serenaded by her new guy friends after being stood up. It’s a hilarious moment, but Zooey felt anything but while filming it. “It’s the saddest feeling to be left somewhere, and I really genuinely felt sad,” she tells us.

Check out the full interview below with one of the most adorable human beings on the planet, and then head down to the comments to tell us which TV characters need to put a dollar in the “douche bag” jar.

Zooey Deschanel Pens Theme Song for Her Fox Sitcom
Written by admin on August 05, 2011 • Leave a message? / No Comments

Singer-actress Zooey Deschanel will combine her two occupations this fall on Fox, having written and recorded the theme song to the show she will star in, “New Girl.”

Deschanel, known for music-centric films such as “(500) Days of Summer” and “Almost Famous” and who is one half of She & Him, plays a newly single woman who moves in with three guys eager to meet her friends. An overly emotional sort, Deschanel’s character sings whenever she is overwhelmed.

“It’s just a part of how she expresses herself,” Deschanel told the Television Critics’ Association Friday in Los Angeles during Fox’s panel on the new show. “They’re songlets — they come spontaneously” to the character. The songs she sings are written into the script.

Deschanel says her singing will have a wide stylistic range, from jazz standards and a hefty Ethel Merman vocal style to heavy metal and “a ghoulish voice.”

Promotional clips for the show feature the “Dirty Dancing” track “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” both the original by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes and by Deschanel and her new roommates who find her alone in a restaurant after she has been stood up.

“New Girl” premieres Sept. 20.

Deschanel said She & Him would continue to work and have recently completed a Christmas album that will be released later this year. Deschanel debuted in the Billboard 200 when She & Him’s “Vol. 2″ opened at No. 6 in April 2010. That album has sold 217,000 copies to date; “Vol. 1,” which peaked at No. 71, has sold 255,000.

New Girl’s Zooey Deschanel Amps Up the Adorable
Written by admin on August 05, 2011 • Leave a message? / No Comments

zooey deschanel - new girl Most. Adorable. TCA Panel. Ever.

Apologizes in advance to Fox’s new girl Zooey Deschanel—the star of their new comedy New Girl—because we’re about to drop a whole lot of adorables on you. Why apologize? Because Ms. Deschanel doesn’t think she’s adorable. Blasphemy, right?!

After a reporter tattled on all of his colleagues by telling Deschanel we were calling her the A-word all over Twitter (Not cool, dude. Not. Cool.), she turned red and put her hands over her ears. “My mom told me when I get compliments to cover my ears,” she says. “I’m so embarrassed now. I don’t know if I’m adorable. I’m flustered. Thank you. I don’t think of myself that way, but I will take the compliment.”

Adorable answer is adorable. OK, we’ll stop with the adorables. For now.

While Deschanel is considered a pretty big draw at the movies, she says she’s never connected to any project the way she has with New Girl. ” I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a part as charming and as exciting,” she gushes. “Literally reading the pilot script, I was laughing out loud. Every time we rehearse, I have such a great time. The material is so great. I have so much fun. The thought of doing it for a long time is really exciting to me. I don’t know if I’ve ever read a role this good for myself.”

Though the TCA panel was mostly a Z.D. lovefest, the topic of Damon Wayans Jr.’s recasting was addressed head-on. While he appears in the pilot, Wayans was unable to continue with the show after his ABC comedy Happy Endings was picked up for a second season. (Are you watching Happy Endings? If not, look at your life, look at your choices.)

Instead of reshooting the pilot, Wayans’ character will move out in the second episode and Lamorne Morris will be taking his room in the apartment. Or actually taking his room back as Wayans’ character was subletting from Morris while he was playing basketball in Latvia. So it’s goodbye Coach, hello Winson!

“We’re really happy with the pilot,” executive producer Brett Baer says while explaining the decision not to reshoot the pilot. “We were really happy with the energy Damon brought.”

Morris actually auditioned for the show early on and producers were interested, but he ended up landing another project. The executive producers revealed that the first time they met Morris, he was wearing tiny shorts. “Cutoff denim,” Morris clarifies.

Here are the rest of the highlights from the New Girl panel:

♦ Prepare for some sexual tension…in the future. Deschanel says there’s “so much sexual tension,” while creator Liz Meriwether adds, “We’re going to go there in the future, for sure.” Along with flirting, expect to see some tough love going on between Deschanel’s Jess and her three male roommates.

♦ A jar will be an ever-present member of the show. Yes, a jar. As it turns out, it’s a douchebag jar for Max Greenfield’s character Schmidt. “It helped us to get into Schmidt’s character,” Meriwether says of the jar. “He’s a douchebag who can’t help being a douchebag so he wants to train himself.” If only douchebag training were a real thing…

♦ Forget bromances! Deschanel and Meriwether are harboring major mutual girl crushes. “I just think Liz and I are connected, our souls are connected an when your souls are connected, you’re meant to do a show together,” Deschanel gushes. Later on, Meriwether called her star “the cat’s meow” and Deschanel returned the compliment, calling her boss “the cat’s pajamas.”

♦ Fans of Deschanel’s singing will be pleased with the show as Jess loves, and we mean loves, to sing. In fact, she even makes up her own theme song. “They’re really well-peppered in, the singing moments,” Deschanel says. Meriwether adds, “She sings when she doesn’t know what to say.” Jess’ singing will vary depending on her mood and the moment, so you may hear “a little heavy metal, a little ghoulish.”

♦ Let’s hear it for the dorks! After being asked how they can pass off that the adorable Deschanel is a dork on the show, Meriwether took a stand for dorks everywhere, saying, “There are some attractive dorks out there!” Just look at us here at Watch With Kristin. Thanks for defending our honor, Meriwether.

♦ Things became a little awkward when a reporter asked Deschanel if her sis, Bones’ star Emily Deschanel, prepared her for the “idiocy” of Fox. (Ouch!) “She gave me hints on how to deal with the delightfulness of Fox,” Deschanel demurred. See, adorable! (Sorry, Zooey, but you really just bring it on yourself.)

Zooey Deschanel Doesn’t Think She’s Adorable
Written by admin on August 05, 2011 • Leave a message? / No Comments

Zooey Deschanel has been described as adorable in virtually every single article ever written about her (including this one!). But the actress told a room of reporters gathered at the Television Critics Association summer press tour’s session for her new Fox comedy, “New Girl,” that she doesn’t think of herself that way. Like, at all.

“My mom told me when I get compliments to cover my ears,” said Deschanel, covering her ears at a question inquiring when she first discovered that she was adorable. “I’m so embarrassed now. Thank you for saying that. I don’t know if I’m adorable. I don’t think of myself that way but I will take the compliment.”

She should probably cover her ears whenever she sees ads for the comedy, in which she plays a woman moves into an apartment also shared by three dudes after catching her boyfriend in an act of infidelity. The promos refer to her character, Jessica, as “adorkable.”

Other highlights from the “New Girl” panel:

Deschanel wrote and recorded the theme song for the show, and her musical background as the lead singer of the She and Him, her collaboration with songwriter M. Ward, will lead to her heartbroken character spontaneously bursting into short snippets of songs — which she referred to as “songlets.”

A few reporters compared her character to the one she played in “500 Days of Summer,” who would also break into song when the mood struck her, such as when she (adorably) belted out the Smiths’ classic “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out.”

But Deschanel said she thought the two fictional women were only similar in one way. “The characters feel different,” she said. “Obviously they look alike.”

Creator Liz Meriwether said the main notable difference is that Jessica hasn’t discovered the Smiths yet.

Someone asked a sarcastic question about whether Emily Deschanel, Zooey’s sister, who stars in the long-running Fox drama “Bones,” had given her pointers on how to navigate the unsavory business of working with Fox executives.

“She gave me hints on how to deal with the delightfulness of Fox,” countered Deschanel playfully. “My experience here has been amazing.”

Meriwether also addressed a salient question about how many season the “new” in the title would ring true.

“Maybe by the tenth season it will be ‘Newish Girl,” she joked.

“New Girl” debuts September 20 at 9 p.m.
