Zooey Deschanel Says Tights Are Her Wardrobe “Safety Blanket.”

zooey deschanel

Zooey Deschanel recently wrote a blog post on the super-cute site she co-founded, Hello Giggles, where she admits she relies really, really heavily on her favorite wardrobe staple, tights. “I am a year round tights girl,” she says. “I will wear tights even if it’s 100 degrees outside. Tights are my safety blanket. In them, I know that I can do a sweet row of cartwheels anytime, anywhere without anyone catching a glimpse of my knickers.”

A quick flip through the photo archives proves her point–I could scarcely find a single red carpet shot of her without an opaque black pair! I’m much more of a wardrobe chameleon, so I don’t necessarily have one thing I’d call my “safety blanket”…but how about you? Do you have piles and piles of plain white T-shirts? Do you wear some form of LBD to every fancy occasion? Would you never, ever leave the house without high heels? Share!

Zooey Deschanel Covers ‘Self’ Magazine For July 2011
Written by admin on June 15, 2011 • Leave a message? / No Comments

zooey deschanel - self magazine Zooey Deschanel shows off her baby blues on the cover of Self magazine’s July 2011 issue, on newsstands Thursday (June 16) in New York and Los Angeles.

Here’s what the 31-year-old actress had to share:

On getting to know yourself: “Most people spend too much time comparing themselves to others….Get to know yourself a little bit better. Stop and ask yourself a few questions, and think about you.”

On why she works out: “A lot of people work out to be skinny. That’s so boring, and it seems like a depressing goal for a modern woman. I work out to be healthy and because I like it. I do sports or classes, things that engage my mind. If you’re active, fitness will follow – and probably a good figure, too.”

On advice she’d give her former self: “If I could give my teenaged self any advice, it would be ‘Calm down!’ In fact, if I could relive one day of my life, it would be the worst day of seventh grade, just so I could appreciate how much better life is now.”

Zooey Deschanel also joked with Self staffers that “if this acting thing doesn’t work out,” she could be a Snow White impersonator at Disneyland!

Full Length Trailer For ‘Our Idiot Brother’ Released
Written by admin on June 14, 2011 • Leave a message? / No Comments

On paper, there is no reason us not to like “Our Idiot Brother.” The cast is stacked with actors we really like—Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Rashida Jones, Emily Mortimer, Adam Scott, Steve Coogan, T.J. Miller, Kathryn Hahn, Hugh Dancy and Janet Montgomery—and seems tailor made to win us over, and while we didn’t love this new trailer wholeheartedly, we think there is more than meets the eye.

Our man at Sundance James Rocchi, whose taste is pretty much on point, called the film “Apatovian, pleasureable & a real surprise” and that sort of nuance is kind of missing here in the trailer, which seems to be going to broader laughs. At any rate, everyone looks finely tuned for their roles. Paul Rudd seems perfectly at ease as everyone’s best friend and lover of life who gets mixed up in the woes of his family, but Adam Scott walks away with the entire trailer thanks to a single line, perfectly read. As for the rest of the cast we only get brief moments with them and the movie hints at the kind of message we’re pretty sure we’ve seen a million times, but once again, we’d wager (or at least hope) there is more underneath the surface.

We’ll see when “Our Idiot Brother” hits theaters on August 26th. Check out the full trailer below.

Zooey Deschanel’s New Lady Site Is Called ‘Hello Giggles’
Written by admin on May 27, 2011 • Leave a message? / No Comments

Actress/singer/cotton spokesperson Zooey Deschanel just launched a new website called Hello Giggles (which would be a great name for a baby-wear line) along with her friends Sophia Rossi, a TV producer, and blogger Molly McAleer. It’s filled with fairly typical female-friendly blog fare—imagine fellow webbie newcomer xoJane, declawed and bathed in sunshine—with the added bonus of Deschanel’s twee vibe.

The site’s contributors dish on fashion (“The 10 Best Outfits in Disney Films”), entertainment (in case you need another Real Housewives recap), and the usual musings about how hard everyone is on ladykind (“Life Doesn’t Come With an Airbrush Tool,” you know).

And be assured that you won’t find any icky boy jokes here: “Everything hosted on the site will be lady-friendly, so visitors need not worry about finding the standard boys club content that makes many entertainment sites unappealing to so many of us,” says the site—because as everyone knows, nothing turns off women like the male of the species.

Zooey Deschanel performs for Winnie The Pooh
Written by admin on May 25, 2011 • Leave a message? / No Comments

Zooey Deschanel tells us about her brand new songs exclusively for the new Winnie The Pooh movie!

Zooey Deschanel joins Winnie the Pooh and all of his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood, performing three songs for the film, including her own take on the classic “Winnie the Pooh” theme song, “A Very Important Thing to Do” and the original end-credit song “So Long,” which was written by Deschanel and performed with She & Him bandmate M. Ward.

“This has been one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had,” says Deschanel. “And I’ve just been thanking my lucky stars that I was able to work on this movie, because it’s delightful.”

“I’m a big fan of Winnie the Pooh and all his friends,” says Deschanel, who also plays the ukulele in the song. “It’s really hard to pick a favorite: Winnie the Pooh is so special, he loves honey and he’s just cool. Eeyore is amazing, I love Eeyore. And Piglet is so small. It’s really a four-way tie between Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore, Piglet and Tigger.”

Among the songs Zooey Deschanel performed for the film is “A Very Important Thing to Do”—a song that helps illustrate the contest the friends from the Hundred Acre Wood take on to find Eeyore a new tail. She also lent her voice to “Everything is Honey” and “Pooh’s Finale,” joining Jim Cummings (the voice of Winnie the Pooh and Tigger), Tony Award®-winning songwriter Robert Lopez (“Avenue Q”) and other cast members.

For the end-credit song, Zooey Deschanel teamed up with Ward to perform “So Long,” a song Deschanel wrote. “When I was writing ‘So Long,’ I just held the images for the end credits in my mind,” she says. “I spent a number of days tinkering with ideas, melodies and chord progressions that I thought would fit the images, the new music being written and the original Sherman Brothers stuff– but still be my own thing. The song definitely has its own feel, but also pays respect to the original.”

Zooey Deschanel plays piano for “So Long” and turned to the instrument when it came time to write the song. “I usually write on piano because that’s the first instrument that I learned when I was a little kid,” she says. “All of my musical theory knowledge is in linear piano form.”

Her heart, however, is in the vocals. “I’m always thinking in terms of vocals, and arranging a fabric of vocals is the most exciting part. I love to sing backup parts—I always try to squeeze in as many as possible,” she says. “It’s fun; it’s my style.”

Zooey Deschanel Gets Dating Lesson in Fresh ‘The New Girl’ Promo
Written by admin on May 25, 2011 • Leave a message? / No Comments

Another promo has been unleashed for Zooey Deschanel’s new show “The New Girl”. Still focusing on Zooey Deschanel’s character, the newly-released video shows how she moves on after her recent break-up with the help of her new roommates, three juvenile guys. Schmidt, for example, gives her an advice how to approach a man whom she sets her eyes on.

Jessica Day is an unlucky-in-love school teacher who is trying to get over her surprise breakup with her model boyfriend. She eventually finds a new place to stay when she moves in with three single guys; Nick, a bartender, Schmidt, a professional and modern-day casanova, and Coach, a former athlete turned trainer.

Rounding out this unlikely bunch is Jess’ street-smart model friend Cece. Together, this group of friends try to help Jess learn a lot about love, life and mostly about herself, while at the same time learn a lot about themselves.

Starring Zooey Deschanel, Max Greenfield, Damon Wayans, Hannah Simone and Jake M. Johnson, “New Girl” will air every Tuesday at 9 P.M. starting this fall.
